The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are headed to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday 12 February 2023 for Super Bowl LVII.
Andy Reid’s Chiefs overcame the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 with a late field goal from Harrison Butker to separate the two AFC franchises. And their head coach will face his former team in the Super Bowl after the Philadelphia Eagles thrashed the San Francisco 49ers 31-7.
It is the Eagles who are set to head into the Super Bowl as the -1.5 point favourites for Sunday’s game.
Two years ago the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ front seven ran riot on the Chiefs’ injured offensive line and Patrick Mahomes couldn’t get anything going. Now, Philadelphia may not be on that level but they’re not far off. Four players have recorded 11+ sacks this season.
The Eagles have the second-best defence in the NFL, whilst the Chiefs are set to miss Mecole Hardman for the big one. Kadarius Toney is likely to play, but far from 100%. Sure, they have Travis Kelce, but they will be relying on JuJu Smith-Schuster and/or Marquez Valdez-Scandling to step up.
Mahomes will have had three weeks to recover from his high ankle sprain. He was good enough to play well against the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship but how close to 100% is he really going to be? The Eagles front four is more than capable of getting to the quarterback and at least putting him under pressure.
On offence, Philadelphia have gone 14-0 when rushing for 100+ yards this season. And Kansas City give up yards on the ground. This means Jalen Hurts may not need to force anything. And even if he has to, AJ Brown, Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert are all top receivers.

Nick Sirianni’s team are good on both sides of the ball. They are capable of putting up a large number of points on the Kansas City defence, whilst controlling the game with the running game. Defensively, I can see them getting to Patrick Mahomes and forcing turnovers.
