The 2022-23 English Premier League season is set to start this weekend, with Crystal Palace hosting Arsenal on Friday night in the opening game of the season.
Manchester City will head into the season as the defending champions and having won four of the previous five titles. Pep Guardiola’s side have also had an excellent summer transfer window to date simply by signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The Citizens often played a false 9 last season and now an out-and-out striker, and arguably the best in the world, will greatly improve their attack. As if their 99 goals in 38 games last season wasn’t enough already.
Liverpool did only finish one point behind the champions last season and have been hanging in with City over the past five seasons, including winning the title once themselves. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side may have taken a step back with the loss of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.
The forward was a huge part of their impressive front three, alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, that scored 94 goals themselves last season. Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have arrived from Benfica and FC Porto respectively to add to the attack but we don’t believe they’ll be able to replace Mane’s game changing ability.
Liverpool finished 18 points ahead of third-place Chelsea last season and we simply don’t see the Blues nor any other team putting up a respectable title challenge to Manchester City this season.
Therefore, we can see Manchester City being the clear and comfortable Premier League winners this season. And so, we think the sportsbooks have been very generous in offering odds of 4/7 to do just that days before the season kicks off.
