The San Francisco 49ers and LA Rams will meet for the third time this season as both teams caused a surprise on the road in the Divisional round.
Number 1 seed Green Bay went down 10-13 to Kyle Shanahan’s side, which has proven to be the only head-to-head loss in our 2022 NFL playoff predictions so far. That’s because we tipped the Rams to win on the road in Tampa Bay the following day.
San Francisco will be on the road for a fourth successive week and it’s virtually a fourth playoff game in a row as they needed their week 18 victory against the Rams to reach the post-season in the first place.
Granted, SoFi Stadium is just down the road for the 49ers but it won’t have made it easy to rest, recover and prepare for each game. To add further issues, they’ve picked up a few key bumps and bruises to be able to compete for the NFC Championship.
Nick Bosa, Trent Williams and Elijah Mitchell all missed practice on Wednesday due to injuries. Fans will at least be relieved to know that Deebo Samuel did practice despite limping off with an apparent knee injury in the final offensive play of the game in Green Bay.
Meanwhile, the Rams are getting healthier, with left tackle Andrew Whitworth expected to return after missing the trip to the Buccaneers game.
The Rams lost a 27-3 lead in the second half before Matthew Stafford’s game-winning drive. This included two fumbles and a missed field goal. One of the culprits was running back Cam Akers, who fumbled twice and only picked up 48 yards from 24 carries too.
In their week 18 matchup, Akers carried just five times, totaling 3 yards. You have to think he’s going to get less opportunities this week with what happened in Florida, and as Sean McVay has the likes of Sony Michel and Darrell Henderson to call upon too, he isn’t spoiled for choice. On top of that, the 49ers have a stout run defence.
The under/over has been set at 63.5 yards, which he hasn’t gone over in his three games this season.
Pick: Cam Akers under 63.5 rushing yards
