Man City vs Lyon preview

Manchester City face Lyon in the final quarter-final of the 2019-20 Champions League on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side are heavy favourites to reach the final four, where they would face either Bayern Munich or Barcelona in the Portuguese capital.

The English Premier League side overcame Real Madrid 4-2 on aggregate with a 2-1 win in each leg and are the bookmakers favourites to go all the way for the first time in their history.

Lyon pulled off an impressive win in the Round of 16 as they eliminated Juventus on away goals. Rudi Garcia’s side had only narrowly made it out of the group stage with eight goals.

Manchester City should dominate possession in this game whilst the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are all match winners, with Gabriel Jesus looking to get onto crosses and through balls inside the penalty area.

The French opposition have played just twice since March as Ligue 1 was cancelled – drawing 0-0 in the French League Cup final before losing on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain, and their second leg versus Juventus, which they lost 2-1 on the night.

Lyon will certainly look to exploit Manchester City’s porous defence, which could include Fernandinho at centre-back once again. Memphis Depay and Moussa Dembele often play as a front two, though the latter is yet to score in this season’s competition.

This should be a comfortable win for Manchester City.
