Novak Djokovic early favourite for Australian Open

Two weeks before the start of the 2020 Australian Open and Novak Djokovic is the early favourite with the bookmakers to defend his trophy.

The Serbian dropped just two sets in cruising to the title in January 2019, concluding with a 6-3 6-2 6-3 victory over Rafael Nadal in the final.

Djokovic is a record seven-time champion at Melbourne Park and has been made 7/4 favourites a fortnight ahead of the start of the tournament.

2009 champion Rafael Nadal has been made 7/2 favourite and will be seeded on the opposite side of the draw to the Serbian. Nadal has been runner-up of this event on four occasions, including 12 months ago. He was beaten by Roger Federer in the final in 2017, Stan Wawrinka in 2014 and Djokovic in 2012. The Spaniard’s last four Grand Slam final defeats have all been at this event.

Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev are joint-third favourites at 10/1. Stefanos Tsitsipas is next on the bookmakers’ list, at 11/1.
