New England Patriots favourite for 7th Super Bowl

The New England Patriots have seen their odds to win the Super Bowl decrease as the 2020 NFL season reaches the halfway point.

Bill Belichick’s side started the season as 6/1 second favourites to retain their title, but following an 8-0 start, the best odds you can find on them currently is 13/5. The head coach, alongside quarterback Tom Brady, have won the Super Bowl an incredible six times together. No franchise has ever won more than six (Patriots tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers).

It’s worth noting, that whilst the Patriots do have an incredible defensive record statistically, they have actually only faced one team with a winning record so far. And even then, that was the Buffalo Bills…

The New Orleans Saints have been one of the most impressive teams this season and are backed by the bookmakers at 5/1. Some excellent playcalling from Sean Payton and his coaching staff see them at 7-1, despite missing Drew Brees for five weeks with an injury. That’s a 2.5 game lead over the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South.

Aside from the Patriots, the San Francisco 49ers are the only other unbeaten side after week 8. Kyle Shanahan’s team have a mightily impressive defence and one of the best ground games in the league right now. They can currently be backed at 17/2 to win the Super Bowl.

Pre-season favourites Kansas City have seen their odds drift from 5/1 to 14/1 after some inconsistency, defeats and poor defensive displays. The Green Bay Packers have shorter odds than the Chiefs, down at 14/1 following their Sunday night win in the head-to-head battle at Arrowhead.
