2019 French Open winner and number 1 seed Ashleigh Barty has been dumped out of the fourth round of this year’s Wimbledon by America’s Alison Riske.
Barty took the first set 6-3 before Riske fought back, taking the second set 6-2 and the decider 6-3. The 29-year-old American will be competing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final on Wednesday.
Alison RIske has now played three sets in each of her four matches so far at SW19, defeating Donna Vekic, Ivana Jorovic and Belinda Bencic in the previous rounds.
Riske will come up against seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, who breezed by Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-2 6-2.
Following Ashleigh Barty’s elimination, Serena WIlliams has been installed as the 2/1 favourite to lift the trophy on Saturday.
Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova is the second favourite at 7/2, ahead of her fourth round match with fellow countrywoman Karolina Muchova, and third favourite Petra Kvitova at 5/1, who herself still has to face home favourite Johanna Konta in round four later today.
