2019 French Open winner Ashleigh Barty has been made the co-favourite to win this summer’s Wimbledon title, along with Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova, according to the bookmakers.
The pair can both be found at odds of 9/2 to go all the way over the next fortnight.
Barty won her first Grand Slam last month in what was a very open French Open tournament, with several favourites dropping out in the early rounds.
Karolina Pliskova is a former world number 1 but is still yet to lift a single Grand Slam title. It is often said that the 27-year-old freezes when she gets close in the big tournaments. She was a runner-up at the 2016 US Open and is a semi-finalist at both the Australian Open (2019) and French Open (2017), but has never made it past round 4 at SW19.
Ashley Barty will face Zheng Saisai in his opening match on Tuesday, whilst Pliskova faces China’s Zhu Lin later today.
Former Wimbledon champions Serena WIlliams (8/1) and Angelique Kerber (10/1) are the bookmakers’ third and fourth favourites respectively.
