The house edge of the Blackjack game is determined by the amount of decks the games are played with. If there are common rules, Blackjack will have a house edge that is lower when there is one single deck, than eight decks. In the 1960’s and 1970’s single deck Blackjack games were popular, and since there is proof that any player can beat the Blackjack easily using card counting, the single deck Blackjack games have become very rare.
Although the use of single deck has not occurred in a long time, a few years ago, casinos have already started to once again offer the single deck Blackjack game. Many people have become interested in playing when they heard that single deck Blackjack will be easier than the eight deck game. But most of them do not know that there are slightly different rules for a single deck game. These rules have increased the Blackjack’s house edge. And these single deck games rules are not that different than eight decks blackjack games.
The new rules involved among other things a change in the paying ratio. With the normal rules, a natural Blackjack will give you a three to two payment. But the new rules state that you just get six to five for a natural Blackjack. Example: if you bet 10 dollars, when you get a natural Blackjack, you will get $15. But the new rules only allow for you to get $12 in the single deck game. This new rule is increasing the Blackjack house’s edge by one and a half percent.
That’s just one of the rules that have changed in order to increase the house edge. Another one is when the dealer hit a soft 17, it will add an additional 0.2 percent into the game. Thus the house’s edge has increased to 2 percent by this new rule.
Multi-deck Blackjack games tend to have a lower house edge than this single deck games. If people follow a basic strategy correctly, the house edge in the multi-deck Blackjack is only a half percent. But most people doesn’t want to spend their time just to only learn the basic, missed their chance to playing in a bigger win percentage games. They prefer the single-deck Blackjack games that just pay you 6 to 5 only.
When you play in a multi-deck Blackjack games, the cards that are dealt out on the table are facing upwards. You won’t be allowed to physically hold or touch the cards. But in a single-deck Blackjack game, dealers will deal the cards to you in a face down position. The players are allowed to touch the cards, as they must pick the cards to see what they got.
Before you play, you must always ask for and know the rules.
